A well contested match but just lost out on a win!

 

The weather was overcast with sunny spells, dry and windy.

 

1st Half

 

With the visitors kicking off, Hellingly held most of the possession putting Burgess Hill defenders under good pressure resulting in a try by Jack Cowell in the 5th minute, but with a good attempt at conversion, the wind took the ball just in front of the sticks (5-0). The 9th minute saw Burgess Hill awarded a penalty for player not rolling away bring the score to 5-3. It was definitely a kicking game with significantly more lineouts than scrums and the visitors gained a converted try in the 27th minute (5-10). Until the 39th minute, the teams were well matched until Burgess Hill scored an unconverted try bring the half time score to 5-15. After 43 minutes on the stopwatch, there had been 5 scrums, 21 lineouts, advantage give for 10 and advantage against 7.

 

2nd Half

 

The 2nd half was more of a scrum-fest with 110% effort being put in and then very quick feet making good ground with well linked phases of play. The hard graft paid off in the 13th minute with a try by Jordan Widdop and converted by Hugh Jones (12-15). Tit-for-tat advantage being won and lost by both teams saw Hellingly awarded a penalty kick being driven home by Hugh Jones evening up the score line to 15-15. With some very close try attempts by Hellingly, the visitors broke through the defence resulting in a converted try in the 36th minute (15-22). Soon after, Burgess Hill was given a penalty but missed an extra 3 points. The 2nd half saw 12 scrums, 8 lineouts, advantage given for 12 and advantage against 11. Final Score 15-22
